Get feedback on a draft before you share it
Ask for specific criticism from the perspective of the person who'll read it.
The task
Asking an assistant to "improve" a draft gets you blander text. Instead ask it to read as your audience and tell you what's unclear, what's missing and what they'd push back on. Then you make the changes.
A prompt to start from
Paste it into your AI assistant, then fill in the bits in [square brackets].
Read this draft as [audience, e.g. a busy finance director who wasn't in the project]. Don't rewrite it. Tell me: - Where you got confused or lost interest - What you'd want to know that isn't there - What you'd push back on - The one change that would most improve it
[paste draft]
What to check in the output
- You decide which feedback to act on. Some of it will be generic.
- If it says everything's great, ask again more sharply.
Before you paste anything in
Check the draft's sensitivity against your AI policy.
Your organisation's AI policy wins over anything here.
