Prepare for a discovery call from public information

Turn a prospect's website, annual report and job ads into a one-page brief and five questions worth asking.

The task

Before a first call, reps skim the prospect's site, a press release or two and LinkedIn, then go in with generic questions. Instead, paste in the public material you've gathered and ask the assistant for a short brief: what the company says it's prioritising, what's changed recently, and what that might mean for the problem you solve.

A prompt to start from

Paste it into your AI assistant, then fill in the bits in [square brackets].

I'm a salesperson preparing for a first discovery call with [company], who [one line on what they do]. We sell [one line on your product and the problem it solves].

Below is public information I've collected: their website copy, recent news and some job adverts.

  1. Summarise in five bullets what they seem to be prioritising this year, quoting the source for each.
  2. List anything that suggests they have the problem we solve, and anything that suggests they don't.
  3. Suggest five open questions for the call that test those assumptions. No leading questions.

Only use what's in the material. If something is a guess, label it as a guess.

What to check in the output

  • Every claim about the company should point to something in the material you pasted. Delete anything that doesn't.
  • Check dates: assistants happily treat a three-year-old press release as current.
  • Read the questions aloud. If one sounds like a pitch, rewrite it.

Before you paste anything in

Public information only. Don't paste notes from previous calls, CRM exports or anything the prospect shared under NDA unless your company's AI policy allows it for this tool.

Your organisation's AI policy wins over anything here.
