Summarise themes from engagement survey comments
Group hundreds of free-text survey comments into themes, with counts and representative quotes.
The task
Free-text survey comments are often the most useful part of an engagement survey and the least read. Ask the assistant to group anonymised comments into themes, with a rough count and two or three representative quotes per theme.
A prompt to start from
Paste it into your AI assistant, then fill in the bits in [square brackets].
Below are anonymised free-text comments from an employee survey, one per line. Group them into no more than eight themes. For each theme give: - A short name - Roughly how many comments fall under it - Two or three representative quotes, copied exactly - Whether the tone is mostly positive, negative or mixed
Don't invent themes that only one comment mentions. List comments you couldn't place at the end.

What to check in the output
- Counts from an assistant are approximate. If you're going to report a number, count it properly.
- Read a sample of the original comments yourself to check the themes feel right.
- Check the quotes are exact and don't identify anyone.
Before you paste anything in
Anonymise first: remove names, team names in small teams, and anything that identifies a person. Check your survey's privacy notice covers this use.
Your organisation's AI policy wins over anything here.
